In the new era, it is particularly important to better practice green development, lead green consumption, find a place in the new value network and feedback loop, shape advantages in the new system structure and industrial linkages, and realize the right path of green development.
On May 31, as an important part of the 2024 Climate Innovation Fashion Summit, the textile industry carbon neutrality and green consumption theme forum was held simultaneously. Yan Yan, Vice President of the China Textile Industry Federation and Director of the Social Responsibility Office, and other relevant leaders and guests, as well as more than 100 people from relevant government departments, international organizations, research institutes and enterprise representatives attended the event.
The conference was hosted by the China Textile Industry Federation, undertaken by the Social Responsibility Office of the China Textile Industry Federation and the China Textile Information Center, and strongly supported by the Industry Development Department of the China Textile Industry Federation, the Science and Technology Development Department of the China Textile Industry Federation, the Productivity Promotion Department of the China Textile Industry Federation, HSBC, etc.
"At present, climate change has become an imminent threat to mankind, and coping with climate change has become a global consensus The development trend, as well as China's new policies, new actions and new achievements in actively addressing climate change. Based on his observations in the past six months, he said that the introduction of trade into climate action by developed countries is an important symbol of the global climate governance process. A fundamental understanding of the new stage of global climate governance is that climate action has become an economic opportunity, which can also be called competitive cooperation. China is actively responding to climate change, and all sectors of society and countries around the world should work together to address the challenges of climate change.
"At present, many countries often use more hidden means to raise tariff barriers in imported products, such as carbon label certification, carbon footprint assessment, carbon standard setting, etc. Among them, textile and clothing are the key areas, which not only imposes great restrictions on the export products and affluence of many developing countries, but also increases the costs of developing countries to cope with climate change in a disguised way." Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Development Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, shared the new trends of international climate trade policies, clarification of the basic concept of carbon leakage, and coping ideas from three aspects with the title "New Trends of International Climate Trade Policies and Coping Ideas". She said that EU carbon tariffs clearly require equal emission reduction and prevent carbon leakage, which not only have strong political factors, but also have an important impact on China's economic development. Among them, carbon leakage is the increment of transferred emissions caused by differences in emission reduction policies, not the total amount. In order to actively respond to carbon tariffs, she suggested that China should pay attention to it from the political, legal, economic and technological aspects, formulate corresponding measures and jointly promote it.
"It is difficult for manufacturing enterprises to reduce emissions in factories, and by choosing the product dimension as a starting point, they can not only deliver low carbon value to downstream customers in a timely manner, but also have high operability." Sun Lirong, a researcher from the Sustainable Development Cooperation Department of China Textile Information Center, said when introducing the progress of the pilot project of the full life cycle assessment of products in China's textile and clothing industry, According to the analysis of a large number of evaluation data, starting from the textile raw material side, by reducing the carbon footprint of raw materials, it can effectively help the downstream of the industrial chain to achieve effective emission reduction. In combination with a large number of case sharing, she pointed out that the whole life cycle traceability, process innovation, sustainable design and raw material traceability are important ways for enterprises to save energy and reduce carbon, and LCA diagnosis can help enterprises to explore the password of green transformation and development. In addition, she also focused on analyzing the carbon reduction factors affecting raw materials, yarns, fabrics, finished products, auxiliary materials and packaging, as well as the construction goals of textile environment-friendly materials and supplier database system ECOM.
"The cost of green washing is very high, so enterprises need to be cautious; real sustainable production and sustainable consumption can create value, which is beneficial to enterprises." Li Li, vice president of the Institute of Market Regulation of the University of International Business and Economics, and associate researcher of the Institute of International Economics, analyzed "green consumption in the global market" and "regulatory trends and trends" of green washing from the perspective of sustainable consumption and green washing status quo In terms of green washing supervision, a large number of cases were introduced in detail. She said that sustainable consumption is to meet the demand for goods and services of present and future generations in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner. Sustainable production and consumption require systematic thinking and respect for basic economic laws and natural laws. "The establishment of the product carbon footprint database must be regional, timely, comprehensive, and platform leading." Wang Laili, a professor of the China Textile and Clothing Industry Life Cycle Working Group (CNTAC-LCA) and Zhejiang University of Technology, pointed out when introducing the global product carbon footprint standards and database development, The carbon footprint of textile products can quantify the sum of greenhouse gas emissions and removal in the life cycle of textile products (for example, from the acquisition of fiber raw materials to the completion of waste disposal of textile products), It can also quantify the sum of greenhouse gas emissions and removals in some unit processes (such as from fiber raw materials to yarn manufacturing, from fiber raw materials to fabric manufacturing, and from fiber raw materials to clothing manufacturing) within the life cycle of textile products. He said that the factors affecting the key technologies of carbon footprint accounting of products mainly include selecting target products, determining system boundaries, collecting accounting data, carbon footprint accounting, result analysis and reporting, etc.
"Green, low-carbon and sustainable development is the general trend of the current society, and product carbon footprint management is an important method to carry out sustainable practice from the product level, analyze the environmental impact of products, and help achieve full cycle green management of products." Kong Yan, assistant researcher of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Department of China Textile Information Center, combined with the case, This paper introduces LCAplus, a product life cycle evaluation platform for China's textile and clothing industry. She said that life cycle assessment (LCA) is a scientific method to support credible carbon labels. LCAplus is a digital industrial platform for one-stop product carbon footprint assessment, certification, and label promotion. It has five characteristics: first, it is efficient and convenient, second, it is co construction and sharing, third, it is safe computing, fourth, it is collaborative improvement, and fifth, it is value co creation. LCAplus platform is not only an efficient LCA computing tool, but also a combination of "digital" characteristics and "green" functions. It can help enterprises conveniently manage and disclose environmental information of products, optimize product design and production processes, and provide a full range of digital services for product environmental performance.
"Due to the wide range of PEF evaluation indicators, it will become an important method and rule for future international green product evaluation. The LCI database is a commonly used database for product carbon footprint assessment (LCA), with traceability, transparency and uniformity." Chen Shuitou, GaBi China's technical director, shared the ILCD manual of the international life cycle data system to support sustainable production and consumption from the aspects of EU PEF standards, international LCA software and database, LCD data format description, etc. He pointed out that convergence and mutual recognition are the key to the adaptation of life cycle data formats. ILCD provides guidance and standards for consistent and high-quality application of LCA. In addition, he also introduced the EU product LCA/carbon footprint assessment method (PEF), the development and application mode of international LCA software and database, and the LCDN (The Life Cycle Data Network) life cycle data network launched by the EU in 2014. He said that GaBi has developed a dataset that conforms to EU standards, which can help enterprises better calculate their carbon footprints in compliance and achieve international mutual recognition.
"The EU's product digital passport does not only focus on batteries, but textiles may be the next." Zhao Junfeng, the climate change director of Triumph Sustainable Digital Technology, shared the background and core content of the standard preparation of the Technical Specification for the Creation and Evaluation of Carbon neutral Factories in the Textile Industry, as well as the comparison with existing standards, under the title of How to Build a Carbon neutral Factory. He introduced that as a part of China's carbon neutral factory standard system, the standard can not only fill the gap of relevant standards in the textile industry, but also provide guidance for the construction of carbon neutral factories in the textile industry; At the same time, encourage and promote the spontaneous construction of carbon neutral plants in the textile industry, and rely on the experience of carbon neutral plant construction in the textile industry to help the construction of carbon neutral plants and related work in China. Compared with existing standards, this standard is more instructive, at the highest level of similar standards, more focused on greenhouse gas and energy management, and comprehensively considered the difficulty of achieving.
"Carbon neutrality can inject 'carbon' power into brands. In the context of dual carbon, it is particularly important for enterprises to create carbon neutral products and develop carbon neutral textile product management plans." Hu Kehua, deputy director of the Social Responsibility Office and director of the Sustainable Development Project of the China Textile Industry Federation, combined with actual cases and data, The background, ideas and implementation significance of the series of standards of T/CNTAC 188-2023 Technical Specification for Carbon neutral Textiles Evaluation and T/CNTAC 189-2023 Technical Specification for Carbon Label Evaluation of Textiles were explained in detail. He said that carbon footprint reduction is a necessary step for products to achieve carbon neutrality. Enterprises can disclose in annual public reports in various forms, such as carbon neutrality reports, carbon neutrality realization statements, etc. It can not only enhance the added value of products and brand competitiveness of enterprises, give play to the leading role of brand demonstration and the synergy effect of value chain partners, but also respond to the needs of all parties in the domestic and foreign markets, establish mutual reference links with other relevant standards, and drive the low-carbon transformation and high-quality development of the industry. In the future, the Social Responsibility Office will, in accordance with the evaluation process of the Technical Specification for Carbon neutral Textiles Evaluation, assist brands and industry chain partners to jointly build carbon neutral sports consumer goods and low-carbon green industry sustainable sports pioneers.
"Lanjing's goal is to reduce the direct emissions (Scope 1) and the emissions of purchased energy (Scope 2) in the production process of fiber and pulp mills by 42%, and the indirect emissions (Scope 3) in the value chain by 25% by 2030, so as to achieve net zero emissions based on 2021." Liu Shuang, the sustainable development manager of North Asia of Lanjing Group, shared the topic of "Lanjing Group's carbon neutral factory and carbon neutral product practice". She said that Lanzing attaches great importance to the source management of raw materials, wood and pulp. In 2023, 100% of the wood and pulp purchased by Lanzing will come from certified or controlled wood, and 79% of the product sales will come from net profit products. The so-called net profit products mainly refer to the differentiated products of Lanzing, and their design will be based on the product life cycle, It aims to help the downstream customers of Lanjing reduce their impact on the environment.
Achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality requires everyone's joint efforts and active participation. At this meeting, the wisdom collision and foresight of the participants not only pointed out the direction for the industry to actively adapt to the new mechanism of the carbon trading market, layout in advance, establish and optimize the enterprise green asset management system, but also formed a new green synergy for strengthening openness and cooperation, and carrying out low-carbon transformation in the full life cycle of products.
